This is because Islam came last and as the final relgion for
humanity in completed form .... All PRophets before brough t the same
fundamental message of Unity of God Almighty and man's necessity to
worship Him alone without assigning any partnership to him. The religion
for mankind today is but ISLAM. Nothing else will be accepted by God.

Truth Seeker - Facing a problem, one can sometimes fail to
think rationally. Life or death situations need a special leader who can
look ahead and a special team who can have full trust in him.
Why do we see all this contradiction and conflict between
religions? Does not this reveal that religion is not but a waste of time

As long as there are human beings on earth, there will be
'contradiction and conflict' not only about religion, but about almost
everything under the sun. For instance, people differ about political
ideologies, economic policies, philosophical systems and so on. Indeed
we have had two world wars which massacred hundreds of thousands of
people. But no one would claim they were caused by religious
differences.
Will it be reasonable for any one to argue that henceforth there
must not be countries or nations, because they create conflict and
contradiction involving a lot of waste of time and effort!
It is not because of religion per se that there are conflicts;
but it is because people DO NOT FOLLOW the teachings of Religion to
avoid conflicts.

corrupted; if so why do you quote them to prove Muhammad's Prophethood?

It is not a mere allegation of Muslims that the Biblical books
are NOT 100% divinely revealed or inspired books. It is a fact
acknowledged by Christian scholars and experts on the subject. For your
information, if you refer to the famous Jerome Biblical Commentary you
can clearly see what I mean.
But we know that there is truth in the Bible. We know a good
number of the teachings of the prophets (especially of Jesus) in the
Bible, even though there are extraneous ideas in it, brought in by
vested interests. You can refer to a Red-letter edition of the Gospels
and see the actual verses spoken by Jesus (as recorded in the Gospels).
Just read those verses and see how they differ from the verses of St
Paul given in his epistles.
One important point you need to know is that those teachings of
Paul introduced in his epistles contradict the basic teachings of the
Old Testament of Prophets and of Jesus himself. This you can easily
check.
For instance, there is no verse of Jesus that disapproves of the
Law of Moses, whereas you can see for yourself what Paul has to say on
that. You may read this in Galatians 3: 10: Paul says:
"For all who rely on works of the law are under a curse; for it
is written, "Cursed be every one who does not abide by all things
written in the book of the law, and do them."
Secondly, we do not need to quote Bible to prove Muhammad's
(peace and blessings be upon him) Prophethood. We quote the Bible to
prove that the earlier scriptures clearly record the prophecies made by
the earlier Prophets about the coming of the Last Prophet. And because
we have convinced many Christians (for instance) of this fact, they have
recognized Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) as the
Prophet-like-Moses foretold in the Bible. And alhamdu lillah, they have
become Muslims.
And Allah knows best.
What is the importance of Prophethood?
Allah Almighty created humans as His khulafa' (vicegerents or
ambassadors) on earth. This means among other things, that He gave
humans many faculties like intelligence, imagination, memory etc. And to
use these faculties, humans need freedom. So, out of His infinite wisdom
Allah Almighty blessed them with freedom (within limits) also. Thus
humans are free to choose either good or bad. In Allah's scheme, those
who choose good will be rewarded and those who choose bad will be
punished. Since Allah Almighty is All-Merciful, He decided to give
Guidance to humankind to help them choose good and attain eternal
happiness.
Allah's way of giving Guidance to humans is not Himself directly
coming down to earth; but sending His Rusul (Messengers) to guide
humankind. That is why all the Prophets came to their respective peoples
with the duty of not only teaching them the Guidance of Allah, but also
serving as model humans before the people. So Prophets are not only
Messengers who bring Allah's Guidance but also Models who teach through
their own examples how we humans must live here on earth to finally
attain eternal happiness in
Prophethood and so we can see how important it is.
What is the relationship between the prophets? Is there a
certain relationship between the messages they came with? Is there
radical differences between them? and what is the wisdom behind sending

All the prophets came from Allah Almighty and the message they
were entrusted with was basically the same message. For this reason,
they form one brotherhood, though there were other kinds of relationship
between the prophets in some cases - as between Ibrahim and Isma`il
(peace and blessings be upon them); or between Ishaq and Ya`qub (peace
and blessings be upon them).
There never was any radical difference between the prophets;
though they had distinct personalities. For instance consider the
prophets Moses and Aaron (Harun) (peace and blessings be upon them).
Moses was hot-tempered and quick in action; while Harun was somewhat
smooth-talking. But these are mere personal traits and they have little
to do with the performance of their essential duties as prophets.
The wisdom behind sending many prophets, as we may figure with
our little understanding is this:
As mankind grew from stage to stage through history, the
conditions of their livelihood as well as the levels of their knowledge
underwent changes. New cultures and civilizations were born, which made
the people forget the Message God had conveyed to them through His
prophets in earlier times. So new prophets had to come to bring the
people back to the essential message taught by the prophets of old,
until the Guidance of God is completed and perfected through one Last
Prophet, who would lead the whole of humanity to the whole truth. This,
I think, is the reason for Allah's sending many prophets.
Is there a difference between the Injel (Gospel) that Jesus
received and the Bible? If so, what has happened to the original Injil?
Is it comparable to the Qur'an ? In what way former Prophets did receive
their Books?
There is a lot of difference between the original Injil Jesus
received from Allah and the Bible. In fact the Bible is a big volume
containing two sections. The first section is the Old Testament and the
second one is the New Testament. The Injil received by Jesus can be seen
partly in the four Gospels of the New Testament. There is no record that
the original Injil as received by Jesus was dictated by Jesus and kept
safe from corruption. What we have now is the story of Jesus composed
chiefly from hearsay or from scraps of writings by different narrators
decades after Jesus' time. But in these records we have portions of
Injil and the explanations of Jesus himself.
The Gospel narratives can at best be compared to the Hadiths
(the Prophet's traditions) and not to the Holy Qur'an. Because the Holy
Qur'an consists of ONLY the Words of Allah Almighty, while the Gospels
contain the words of Jesus and possibly words of God quoted by Jesus,
combined with the words of the narrators. However, unlike Gospels, the
Hadith literature was thoroughly checked by successive generations of
scholars and according to meticulous methodology to sift through the
original hadiths from the fabricated ones.
All the prophets of God received their books through revelation
just as the Last Prophet received the Qur'an.
Was Muhammad mentioned in the Gospel?
Certainly the coming of the Last Prophet is foretold in the
Gospels. But you won't see the name, 'Muhammad' there. Indeed there was
an Aramaic word in the original Gospel or Injil that had the same
meaning of the name 'Muhammad'. In the present Gospel of John we have
that name translated as 'the Comforter' in some places and 'the Spirit
of Truth' in other places. The descriptions of the 'Comforter' or 'the
Spirit of Truth' clearly indicate they mean none other than Muhammad,
peace be on him.
Here is the relevant passage from John 16:
" I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear
them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide
you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he
shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. He
shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto
you." (16: 12-14)
The Christian claim is that this prophecy is about the Holy
Spirit, the third person in the Christian Trinity. But this is
untenable, because it is made clear in the above verses that the Spirit
of Truth refers to someone who would come AFTER Jesus' time. It is
clearly stated that the Spirit of Truth will 'lead you into all truth':
which means that he will be the Last Prophet.
Note also that he will glorify Jesus. All these qualities are
those of none other than Muhammad and so the prophecy is clearly about
Muhammad, peace be on him.

Do you think that we are in a dire need for a Prophet now?
I don't think we are in dire need for a Prophet now, because,
the mission of all the prophets as we understand it, is over.
We know that even when the prophets came they were not always
accepted or obeyed. And so there is no reason to think that a prophet
will change it all in no time. In the End Times, we learn that Jesus
will come back with a mission; but then it will be End Times you know.
At present it is the duty of the followers of the prophets to
live up to their teachings and find solutions to our problems in ways
that have already been charted out for us. And so what is required is a
return on our part to the original and genuine teachings of our
prophets, now.
Is there is a reference to Muhammad in the Book of Moses
(Torah)?

There certainly are clear prophecies about Muhammad (peace and
blessings be upon him) in the Torah of Moses. For instance consider
these verses from Deuteronomy 18. Here is what Jehovah spoke to Moses
about the prophet to come:
"I will raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like
unto thee, and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto
them all that I shall command him. And it shall come to pass, that
whosoever will not hearken unto my words which he shall speak in my
name, I will require it of him." (Deuteronomy 18:18-19)
Here Moses is addressing the Children of Israel. He quotes
Jehovah as telling him of the coming of a Prophet. The marks for
recognizing the coming prophet would be as follows:
1- He would be from among the brethren of the Children of
2- He would be like Moses.
3- He would speak words and commands put in his mouth by God.
4- He would speak in God's name.
If you examine the above details of the distinguishing traits of
the foretold prophet and those of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon
him) who was born centuries after this prophecy, you will be surprised
to learn of the striking similarities. Here one may also consider the
Christian argument that the above prophecy is about Jesus. So we need to
examine who is actually meant here, with reference to the details of the
prophecy.
1- It is clearly mentioned that the coming prophet would be from
'their brethren', i.e from the brethren of the Children of Israel. We
know that Jesus was one of the Children of Israel and so it is clear
that the prophecy does not apply to him. Whereas Muhammad was born in
the family of Ishmael; indeed his grandfather was Qaidar (Biblical name:
Kedar), one of the twelve sons of Ishmael.
2- One of the two prophets (i.e Jesus and Muhammad) is mentioned
to be like Moses. In fact, it is Prophet Muhammad who is really like
Moses, and not Jesus. For instance, Jesus was born miraculously without
a father; he did not marry and lead a family life; his mission was very
short (three years at the most); and God raised him unto Himself when he
faced the possibility of violent death at the hands of his enemies.
(Christians believe that he was crucified). And so we find that Jesus
did not have the time to realize the dream of establishing a society
based on the principles he taught. Indeed he had declared that his
mission was for 'the lost sheep of the house of
), and not for the whole of humanity.
Compare the above with the mission of Muhammad (peace be upon
him). Like Moses, he had a father and mother; he married and led a
family life; his mission was long like that of Moses; he died a natural
death; and he brought a Law (
social system, like Moses.
It is also worth emphasizing that at the end of the Book of
Deuteronomy, the following is clearly stated:
"And there arose not a prophet since in
whom the Lord knew face to face, in all the signs and the wonders, which
the Lord sent him to do in the
servants, and to all his land, and in all that mighty hand..."
(Deuteronomy 34:10-12)
This makes it clear that there never was a prophet like Moses in
the whole of
Thus we can clearly see that between the two, it was Muhammad
from the brethren of the Children of Israel, who could be called, "a
Prophet like Moses".
This is only one of the prophecies about the Last Prophet in the
Old Testament.

"Prophet" is the word used by the people of the Books
(especially the Christians) for Nabi and Rasul. In fact the two Arabic
words DO NOT EXACTLY MEAN the same as "Prophet". The word, 'Prophet'
means one who prophesies or one who foretells future events. This is
relevant to the Christian concept of a Prophet whose chief mission is to
foretell the coming of the Messiah in the sense of Savior.
To Muslims, a prophet (i.e Nabi or Rasul) is one who receives
Divine Revelations and conveys them to his people. He has also a duty to
be a model to his people.
Now, about the two Arabic words: Nabi and Rasul:
We find these two words used interchangeably in the Holy Qur'an.
For instance we can see the same person being called both a Nabi and a
Rasul. The reason seems to be that the 'Prophet' in Islam has two
capacities: he receives information from God, and he imparts that
message to mankind. He is called Nabi in the first capacity, and Rasul
in the second capacity, with one difference. The word Rasul has a wider
significance, being applicable to every messenger in a literal sense;
and the angels are called Divine Messengers Rasul, because they are also
bearers of the Divine messages when complying with His Will.
I would like to add here a precautionary note: There is no
consensus among the scholars about the exact implications of the words,
Nabi and Rasul. Different scholars have given different interpretations.
You may see the following verses to see how the terms are used
in the Qur'an:
"Also mention in the Book (the story of) Moses: for he was
specially chosen and he was an apostle [Rasul] (and) a prophet [Nabi]."
(Maryam 19:51)
"Also mention in the Book (the story of) Isma`il: He was
(strictly) true to what he promised and he was an apostle [Rasul] (and)
a prophet [Nabi]." (Maryam 19:54)
"Never did We send an apostle [Rasul] or a prophet [Nabi] before
thee but when he framed a desire Satan threw some (vanity) into his
desire: but Allah will cancel anything (vain) that Satan throws in and
Allah will confirm (and establish) His Signs, for Allah is full of
knowledge and wisdom" (Al-Hajj 22:52 )

Science is good enough to make our physical living conditions
more comfortable; for instance, by providing faster travel, quicker
cures for illnesses and more efficient ways of manufacturing better
consumer articles etc.
But how can science teach us to be better human beings?
Today we find that the findings of science lead "the most
civilized country" to the manufacture of more and more chemical,
biological and nuclear weapons of global destruction. They don't bother
to give food to the starving multitudes in Africa or
is to rule the whole world. This is what science has done. This proves
that science on its own cannot save mankind: What we badly need is
Religion, i.e. the True Religion, better understood and more sincerely
followed.

Is Everything Forbidden in Islam?
All the rules of Islam go against the natural urges of the human
being, so how can it be a realistic religion? How can God create
instincts in us, and then forbid us from doing things we fell like
doing?
Islam says no drink, no love and no fun... so how do you live?
Is there any kind of delight that you are permitted to enjoy?
What is happiness in Islam?
In order to answer your question, please allow me to bring forth
some facts that are related to the main issue of this question. The
first fact, which I would like you to be aware of, is that, in contrast
with other faiths, the general rule in Islam is: 'Everything is halal
(permissible) unless it was made haram (forbidden) by the Qur'an,
shari`a (Islamic law). Therefore, haram (forbidden) is the exception and
halal (permissible) is the principle.
Secondly, the Islamic Law was not revealed to restrain people,
confiscate their freedom, or to make their life hard and miserable. On
the contrary, it was revealed to serve an important purpose, which is
the "interests of people." Thus, anything made haram (forbidden) by
Islamic Law, was made so for the interest of people.
According to Muslim scholars, the interests of people are:
faith, life, intellect, wealth, along with family and lineage. If you
study the Islamic Law, you will discover that all its rules focus on
preserving these five ultimate objectives. So, for example, as Allah
prohibited suicide to preserve one's life, He also prohibited drinking
alcohol to preserve one's intellect. And, as God forbade compulsion in
religion to preserve one's faith, He also prohibited adultery to
preserve one's family kinship and the clarity of one's lineage.
In addition, Allah (God) did not forbid anything that is
completely useful. On the contrary, the harmfulness of what Allah
prohibited, to the individual and/or the society, is greater than its
usefulness. Take for example alcohol and sexual relations outside
marriage - if that is what you meant by drink and love - the danger and
harm they both cause to the individuals and to the society is greater
than the temporal enjoyment one gets from any of them.
Furthermore, in many rulings Islam is not different, but shares
a large number of these rules with other faiths and even with some civil
laws... Thus, what Islam prohibited, especially the examples you
mentioned in your question, although lawful in some societies, are
forbidden in many faiths and not appreciated in all the civilized
societies. As a matter of fact, such acts are considered social
illnesses; many rules and regulations are dedicated to decrease their
presence among people.
Hence, it is safe for me to say that the thesis that you began
your question with is a fallacy. The truth is that Islamic rules do not
at all go against the natural urges of the human being. As a matter of
fact, the central role of the Islamic rules is to cultivate the human
behavior and to enable humans to master their natural urges, instead of
being enslaved by them.
The above mentioned brings us to your question about the wisdom
behind Allah's creation of human instincts and then forbidding people
from doing what they feel like doing. We Muslims believe that this
worldly life is not the eternal life; it is only a life of deeds, in
which we continuously live the struggle between good and evil, in
ourselves and around us.
We Muslims also believe that Allah (God) has created us for one
purpose, which is servitude. Yet, Allah did not create us to be
robots... He created us with intellect, feelings, will, and granted us
the freedom to choose and act. Further, through prophets and messengers,
as easily traced in all divine scripts, Allah clarified to humanity what
is good and what is evil. Then, He gave each one the will and ability to
pursue.
Human instincts are part of our nature. This nature, without the
divine teachings and values, will lead us astray. Thus, as it shares
with other faiths, Islam's teachings and rules are meant to elevate the
human soul above the desires and inclinations to the level, in which,
one becomes able to fulfill the purpose of the creation. Without divine
teachings, Man becomes easily enslaved by these instincts, and then
descends to the nature of lesser creatures...
Let's not neglect the fact that although God forbade the
negative ways of fulfilling and responding to the human instincts, He
allowed for a positive way to do so. For instance, Allah prohibited any
out of marriage sexual relationships. Still, He made marriage
permissible and put rules and teachings for it, whereby human instincts
are fulfilled and at the same time human interests are preserved as
well.
In conclusion, as described by one of our scholars:
"Man was created of the best stature, on the best pattern of
creation, and given a very comprehensive potential. Accordingly, he has
been sent to an arena of trial where he will either rise in degree to
the highest of the high, or descend to the level of the lowest of the
low. Always open to Man are the two ways to infinite ascent or to
infinite descent."
The only true and real joy of life - for a devoted Muslim - is
to enjoy his/her human nature, within his/her devotion to the
transcendental view, in which he/she believes. Thus, the teachings and
rules of Islam simply work as guidance for those who want to ascend..
Hence, real happiness, dear Dominick, does not exist in materialistic
temporal enjoyment or in how much we own of that. True happiness is in
the fact we live our life as humans [elevated beings] and succeed in
fulfilling the mission of our creation, which is servitude.
As-salamu alaikum. I am finding difficulty in understanding the
basics of islam. Firstly, which sects are correct? There is so much
difference in their beliefs e.g. Hanafi, Salafi, what are all these?
Basic things such as watching movies listening to songs, going
to cinemas, watching comedy, cracking jokes etc., all these things I
have mentioned are prohibited according to Islam if I am correct? All
these concerns make me feel that following Islam will make one a loner
and more miserable. Everyone needs some kind of entertainment.. I don't
mean to insult Islam it's just that these things really bother me..
Ultimately why all these regulations?

Smile: The First Lesson
Contrary to what you seem to think, Islam is anything but dull
and it is so simple to understand. Unfortunately, though, we often
complicate things so much that ordinary people find them difficult to
understand. As Muslims, we sometimes give a very poor Islam of what
Islam is really like by the way we behave.
In the place where I teach, for example, I spent the first few
weeks wondering why everyone looked so miserable. No one seemed to offer
"As-salamu alayium" (peace be unto you) to you unless they knew you, and
everyone looked so serious all the time.
I told my students that the most important rule in my class was
that they should smile. And you know, just by saying that, many of them
began to look less serious around the corridors and even began to greet
strangers with the Muslim greeting of peace.
It seems as though many of them had this idea at the back of
their minds that Islamic scholars should not laugh, although none of
them could actually tell them where such an idea came from. In such a
mindset, anything that is fun is wrong. But such a mindset has no basis
in Islam.
The Islamic scholars from long ago, when Islamic knowledge was
highly valued and was the basis of life, traveled throughout the world
calling people to Islam and continuing the search for knowledge. From
this situation eminent scholars emerged who answered the complex
questions and issues of their place and time.
Diversity Is Not a Malady
The four schools, Hanafi, Shafi`i, Maliki and Hanbali, were the
most prominent, but they held each other in the greatest respect, since
each of their opinions is acceptable within Islam. The whole point of
their study was to help people to follow Allah more closely. The rules
they made were not rules just for the sake of it.
In a dynamic faith like Islam, it is natural to have different
schools of thought and movements, and they differ only on the very
detailed issues of Islam, not the major ones.
The problem does not come from benefiting from their research
and knowledge, the problem comes when people align themselves with one
of them to the exclusion of the others and compete for who is the best.
What is worse is when followers of one particular school look upon
others as rivals and not really living the real Islam.
You are quite right that Muslims can become confused. And there
is really no need to. Islam is very simple. Islam asks people to declare
that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of
Allah. If we can take these things into our hearts and not just proclaim
them with our lips, and if we can live what we proclaim, then Islam will
speak with a very clear voice.
There is an Arabic proverb which says, 'What comes from the lips
reaches the ears, but what comes from the heart reaches the heart.' As
Muslims we ought to take this proverb into our own hearts and let others
benefit from it. We should not just tell others how they should behave,
but we should show them.
Fun and Celebrations
Our beloved Prophet (peace be upon him) was the best of men ever
to have lived. He was not only good and kind, wise and a great leader,
but he was also full of fun with his friends, and very tender.
There are so many occasions when we see the Prophet laughing and
joking. There was the famous time, also, when he was interrupted at
prayer by the young Hasan and Husain. Rather than tell them to go away,
he allowed them to play with him, and then he made up the prayer later.
Is this the all-too serious Islam that many would have us believe in?
Muhammad was also easy to forgive if it was right to do so. If
there was any slight to Islam, he would fight it with all his strength,
but if the insult was a personal one he would most often overlook it.
And by doing that he won so many hearts to Islam.
We need to distinguish what is from Islam and what are the
cultural practices which people have come to observe in different parts
of the world. I am sure that there are many Muslims who would agree with
you that it is forbidden to watch comedy or to crack jokes, but they
would find it very hard to show you where such an order comes from. It
certainly does not come from Islam.
There is a very simple truth which Muslims should remember.
Everything is permissible in Islam, except that which has been expressly
forbidden. There are too many Muslims who are quick to tell you that
such and such is forbidden, but they have no basis in the noble Quran or
the Sunnah of our Prophet for making such claims.
The things in Islam which are actually forbidden to Muslims are
very few. They include the eating of pork and the drinking of alcohol,
for example, because Allah has declared that these things are harmful to
us. Cracking jokes is not one of the forbidden things.
No Excuse for Being Miserable
There are many nowadays who declare 'we will die for you
Muhammad' yet what we need nowadays is for Muslims to live for him. The
Sunnah of our beloved Prophet makes life easier, not more difficult..
His example brings us closer to Allah and closer to other Muslims, not
further from them. May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.
The rules which we observe as Muslims are there for our own
good, to help us live the lives that Almighty Allah wants us to live.
They are not just rules and regulations for the sake of it.
Unfortunately, some of those who tell us how to behave in such a way and
how not to behave in another, have missed the point of what is allowed
and what is not in Islam.
Muslims should be the happiest of people. We should be
recognized by others by the way we speak, the way we act and by the
cheerful and pleasant way we interact with others. There is no excuse
whatever for Muslims to be miserable and none whatever for being loners.
Islam is a community religion. We are brothers and sisters to one
another and we pray best when we pray together in the mosque in
congregation.
I know a lot of Muslims who are very serious. I even know some
who are miserable. But the vast number of Muslims I know are cheerful
people who are trying their best to live good lives in the service of
Allah and of their brothers and sisters. Just read the life of our
Prophet to see how Muslims should really behave. Do not let the
miserable ones spoil your understanding of what Islam is really like.

I hope you can help me with my question. I am a new Muslim. I
had been studying Islam for around two years till I took the step. I am
also a new wife, and that is why I am living in
husband. It is also my first Ramadan with my husband, his family, in
My problem is that it was not at all what I expected. My husband
is a good Muslim. Yet, we are facing problems practicing our Ramadan
without offending his family. They always expect us to attend their
heavy meal iftars and to invite them to some. They also insist on having
us attend with them the Ramadan urban secular entertainment tent, which
to me is really something very offensive; wasting Ramadan just like
that. They have so many cultural habits, which they mingle with religion
and sometimes I - as a new Muslim - get confused.
As a new Muslim, I feel I have already wasted a big portion of
my life in vanity, till I reached the shores of faith. I do not want to
waste more. I was waiting for Ramadan to seize a moment.
How can I maintain my true Islam and serene Ramadan without
offending them?
You have three situations to adjust to - new religion, new
marriage, and new country. May Allah help you and guide you. Try hard to
develop your relationship with Allah and He will help you in the other
areas. And keep things in perspective. The things of this transient life
are really not worth getting upset about unless they are hindering you
in developing your spiritual life.
It seems to me that you have two problems: how to distinguish
Islamic practices from cultural practices and traditions, and how to
deal with in-laws. Let me address the easier one first.
If you have studied Islam for two years, you probably do have a
fairly good idea of what is and is not Islamic. But whenever you are not
sure of something - especially when someone says that something is halal
or haram - ask them to show you the proof: a verse in the Qur'an, a
hadith, or seek a fatwa from a qualified scholar (which should likewise
be based on such proofs or ijtihad based on analogy, etc.). Here we can

Each society in the Muslim world has developed its own
traditions over the centuries. For example, each community has certain
favorite foods that are served in Ramadan or on `Ashura' (the 10th day
of the month of Muharram).
While, to my knowledge, there is no basis in the Sunnah for such
foods, except dates to break the fast. There is nothing wrong with such
customs as long as you do not eat to excess and you do not get upset
when a certain traditional dish is missing or unattainable. (Tell that
to an Egyptian when mahshi (rice stuffed vegetables) is not served!)
But you will find other customs that are based on non-Islamic
traditions. These include the Egyptian Sham an-Naseem (a spring festival
dating from Pharaonic times); Mawlid an-Nabi (the prophet's birthday),
which appears to be in imitation of Christmas; and the common
celebration of birthdays with parties, cakes and candles, and sometimes
gifts.
It is easy for Muslims, especially reverts, to ignore such
holidays and customs when they are living in the West, well away from
in-laws and extended families. However, when you are here and surrounded
by your husband's family, you probably will be expected to attend family
gatherings on such days.
They will argue that it is a duty to keep family ties, which is
an Islamic duty. You can discuss this with your husband, for he will
know exactly what traditions his family follows on such days.
If his family's gatherings do not include blunt un-Islamic
practices, then you have to compromise and attend, but do not
participate in such practices (we always leave the room then - silently
without much attention).
Now for the bigger problem of in-laws. It is not clear to me
from your question where your husband stands on this issue, especially
that of the entertainment tents. You say, "We are facing problems," not
"I am facing problems." If he feels the same as you, half the battle is
already won. Talk to him about it.
As for the heavy iftars, attend them if you must but do not
overeat. Try to excuse yourselves shortly after the meal to pray `Isha'
and Qiyam Al-Layl (Night Vigil Prayer). If that is not possible, try to
sit in a quiet room (most likely a bedroom) away from the TV and pray or
read Qur'an.
When you must entertain your in-laws, try to cook your own
simple American style meals and serve fewer dishes (but larger amounts
of each, if need be). You should no have to spend Ramadan in the
kitchen. It should be spent in prayer and reading Qur'an. Try to limit
the invitations to once or twice in Ramadan.
As for the Ramadan pleasure tents, these should be absolutely
out of the question. These tents are for smoking, eating, shisha,
drinking (I do not know if they serve alcohol or not), singing, and
perhaps dancing till the wee hours. Such atmosphere and activities are
to be avoided at all times, not only in Ramadan.
You say your in-laws keep insisting, but I am not clear from
your words if your husband gives in to them or not. My own experience is
that it is very hard for Egyptians to say "no" to their parents. If your
husband agrees with your view, the two of you can say "no" - indirectly
- by saying you'd rather stay home or go to the mosque to pray, or that
you are tired and need to rest. If they keep insisting, then you two
should keep insisting - politely - on your view.. Remember that in a
situation like this, your duty is to please Allah, not your in-laws.
Allah says what means:
*{And We have enjoined on man [to be dutiful and good] to his
parents... But if they [both] strive with you to make you join in
worship with Me others that of which you have no knowledge, then obey
them not, but behave with them in the world kindly, and follow the path
of him who turns to Me in repentance and in obedience. Then to Me will
be your return, and I shall tell you what you used to do.}* (Luqman
31:14-15)

If telling the truth from the Quran is the work of the kafirs,

You do not know what your Quran tells you and what it requires
you to do. It asks you to kill all the polytheists and to fight and kill
all the Jews and Christians who refuse to accept Islam or pay protection
tax. You are not doing either of these things, thus turning yourself
into an apostate!!
For your apostasy, you deserve nothing, but death at the hands
of those Muslims who follow the Quran. And they are the jihadis. If they
know that you are not following the directives of the Quran, they will
kill you without any hesitation.
So, be aware! Let Davies Esqr., also take note of the threat he

The Quran has claimed that it is an easy book for all to
understand. Where there was some 'difficulty' in understanding it in the
past, Allah Himself removed it thru the Quran vide verse 75:19.
When that is the case with the Quran, who the hell are your
Ulemas to explain it and why they needed to do so when Allah says it was
His responsibility to explain it for the benefit of the Arabic speaking
people?

UNIVERSALITY OF
GOD'S RELIGION
Since the consequences of following a false religion are so
grave, the true religion of God must have been universally
understandable and universally attainable in the past and it must
continue eternally to be understandable and attainable throughout the
entire world. In other words, the true religion of God cannot be
confined to any one people, place, or period of time. Nor is it logical
that such a religion should impose conditions that have nothing to do
with the relationship of man with God, such as baptism, or belief in man
as a saviour, or an intermediary. Within the central principle of Islam
and its definition (the surrender of one's will to God) lie the roots of
Islam's universality. Whenever man comes to the realization that God is
one and distinct from His creation, and submits himself to God, he
becomes a Muslim in body and spirit and is eligible for paradise.
Consequently, anyone at any time in the most remote regions of
the world can become Muslim, a follower of God's religion, Islam, by
merely rejecting the worship of creation and turning to God alone. It
should be noted, however, that in order to actually submit to God's
will, one must continually choose between right and wrong. Indeed, man
is endowed by God with the power not only to distinguish right from
wrong but also to choose between them. These God-given powers carry with
them an important responsibility, namely, that man is answerable to God
for the choices he makes. It follows, then, that man should try his
utmost to do good and avoid evil. These concepts are expressed in the
final revelation as follows:
"Verily, those who believe (in the Qur'an), and those who follow
the Jewish faith, and the Christians, and the Sabians i.e.
(Angel-and-Star-Worshippers)-any of these who believe in Allah and the
Last Day and work righteousness shall have their reward with their Lord.
They will not be overcome by fear or grief." (Qur'an 2:62)
If for whatever reason, they fail to accept the final message
after it has been clearly explained to them, they will be in grave
danger. The last Prophet said: "Whoever among the Christians and Jews
hears of me but does not affirm his belief in what I brought and dies in
this state will be among the inhabitants of hell."
(Sahih Muslim [English Translation], Vol.1 P.91 No. 284)
RECOGNITION OF GOD
The question which arises here is: How can all people be
expected to believe in the one true God, given their varying
backgrounds, societies and cultures? For people to be held responsible
for worshipping the one true God, they all need to have access to
knowledge of Him. The final revelation teaches that all humans being
have the recognition of the true God imprinted on their souls as a part
of their very nature with which they are created.
In the seventh chapter of the Qur'an (Al-A'raaf, verses
172-173), God explained that when He created Adam He caused all of
Adam's descendants to come into existence ad He took a pledge from them
saying: "Am I not your Lord? To which they all replied, in affirmative
Yes, we testify to it.'"
Allah then explained why He had all of mankind bear witness that
He is their creator and the only true God worthy of worship. He said:
"That was in case you (mankind) should say on the day of Resurrection,
'Verily we were unaware of all this.' " Qur'an 7:172
That is to say, we cannot claim on that day that we had no idea
that Allah, was our God and that no one told us that we were only
supposed to worship Allah alone. Allah went on to further explain that:
"It was also in case you should say, 'Certainly it was our
ancestors who made partners (with Allah) and we are only their progeny
descendants; will you then destroy us for what those liars did?' "
7:173
Thus, every child is born with a natural belief in God and an
in-born inclination to worship Him alone. This in-born belief and
inclination is called in Arabic the"Fitrah".
The Prophet Muhammad reported that Allah said, "I created my
servants in the right religion, but devils made them go astray." The
Prophet also said, "Each child is born in a state of Fitrah. Then his
parents make him a Jew, Christian or a Zoroastrian." If the child were
left alone, he would worship God in his own way, but all children are
affected by the environment. The environment affects all children. So,
just as the child submits to the physical laws which Allah has imposed
on nature, in the same way his soul also submits naturally to the fact
that Allah is his Lord and Creator. But, if his parents try to make him
follow a different path, the child is not strong enough in the early
stages of his life to resist or oppose the will of his parents. In such
cases, the religion which the child follows is one of custom and
upbringing, And God does not hold him to account or punish him for his
religion up to a certain stage of his life.
THE SIGNS OF GOD
Throughout people's lives, from childhood until the time they
die, signs of the one and only true God are shown to them in all regions
of the earth and in their own souls, until it becomes clear that there
is only one true God (Allah). God says in the Qur'an:
"We will show them our signs in the furthest regions (of the
earth) and in their souls, until it becomes clear to them that this is
the truth." (Qur'an 41:53)
The following is an example of God revealing by a sign to one
man the error of his idol-worship. In the south-eastern region of the
Amazon jungle in Brazil, South America, a primitive tribe erected a new
hut to house their man-idol Skwatch, representing the supreme God of all
creation. The following day a young man entered the hut to pay homage to
the God, and while he was in prostration to what he had been taught was
his Creator and Sustainer, a mangy old flea-ridden dog slunk into the
hut. The young looked up in time to see the dog lift his hind leg and
pass urine on the idol. Outraged, the youth chased the dog out of the
temple; but when his rage died down he realized that the idol could not
be the Lord of the Universe. God must be elsewhere. He concluded. As
strange as it may seem, the dog urinated on the idol was a sign from God
for that young man. This sign contained the divine message that what he
was worshipping was false. It liberated from slavishly following his
traditionally learned worship of a false god. As a result, this man was
given a choice: either to seek the true god or to continue in the error
of his ways.
Allah mentions Prophet Abraham's quest for God as an example of
how those who follow HIS signs will be rightly guided:
"So also did we show Abraham the power and the Laws of the
heavens and the earth that he might (with understanding) have certitude.
When the night covered him over, he saw a star. He said: 'This
is my Lord.' But when it set, he said: 'I love not those that set
When he saw the moon rising in splendour, he said: 'This is my
Lord.' But when the moon set, he said: Unless my Lord guide me, I shall
surely be among those who go astray."
When he saw the rising sun in splendour, he said :
'This is my Lord this is the greatest (of all).' But when the
sun set, he said: O my people ! I am indeed free from your (guilt) of
giving partners to Allah..
For me, I have set my face, firmly and truly, towards Him who
created the heavens and the earth, and never shall I give partners to
Allah" (Qur'an 6:75-79)
As was mentioned earlier, prophets have been sent to every
nation and tribe to support man's natural belief in God and man's
in-born inclination to worship Him, as well as to reinforce the divine
truth in the daily signs revealed by Almighty God. Although much of
these prophets' teachings became distorted, portions revealing their
God-inspired messages have remained untainted and have served to guide
mankind in the choice between right and wrong. The influence of
God-inspired messages down through the ages can be seen in the "Ten
Commandments" of Judaism's Torah which were later adopted into
Christianity's teachings, as well as in the existence of laws against
murder, stealing and adultery in most societies throughout the ancient
and modern world.
As a result of God's signs to mankind through the ages combined
with His revelation through His prophets, all mankind has been given a
chance to recognize the one only true God.
Consequently, every soul will be held accountable for its
belief in God and its acceptance of the true religion of God, namely
Islam, which means total submission to the will of Allah (swt).
CONCLUSION
The preceding presentation has demonstrated that the name of the
religion of Islam expresses Islam's most central principle, submission
to God Alone, and that the name "Islam" was chosen not by man, but by
God, according to the Holy scriptures of Islam. It has also been shown
that Islam alone teaches the uniqueness of God and His attributes and
enjoins the worship of God alone without intermediaries. Finally, due
the divinely instilled inclination of man to worship God and the signs
revealed by God throughout the ages to each individuals, Islam may be
achieved by all men at all times...
In short, the significance of the name Islam (submission to
God), Islam's fundamental acknowledgement of the uniqueness of God
Almighty and Islam's accessibility to all mankind at all times
convincingly support Islam's claim that from the beginning of time in
whatever language it was expressed, Islam alone has been, and will be
the true religion of Almighty God.
In conclusion we ask Almighty Allah (swt), the exalted, to keep
us on the right path to which He has guided us, and to bestow on us His
blessings and mercy, for He is indeed the Most Merciful. Praise be to
Allah, the Lord of the worlds, and peace and blessings be on prophet
Muhammad and Household and his entire companion and all the prophets of
God and their righteous followers. Amen

word "Pharaoh" was only used from the 14th century B.C. and not before,
as the Old Testament erroneously claims?
Could anyone in 7th century Arabia have known about Ubar
and Iram's Pillars, which were only discovered in recent decades via the
use of NASA satellite photographs?
The only answer to these questions is as follows: the
Qur'an is the word of the Almighty Allah, the Originator of everything
and the One Who encompasses everything with His knowledge. In one verse,
Allah says, "If it had been from other than Allah, they would have found
many inconsistencies in it." (Surat an-Nisa': 82) Every piece of
information the Qur'an contains reveals the secret miracles of this
divine book.
The human being is meant to hold fast to this Divine
Book revealed by Allah and to receive it with an open heart as his one
and only guide in life. In the Qur'an, Allah tells us the following:
This Qur'an could never have been devised by any besides
Allah. Rather it is confirmation of what came before it and an
elucidation of the Book which contains no doubt from the Lord of all the
worlds. Do they say, "He has invented it"? Say: "Then produce a sura
like it and call on anyone you can besides Allah if you are telling the
truth." (Surah Yunus: 37-38)
And this is a Book We have sent down and blessed, so
follow it and have fear of Allah so that hopefully you will gain mercy.
(Surat al-An'am: 155)
